The Insinuations of Self Publishing
In traditional publishing, a publisher selects manuscripts for publication based on their quality and marketability, investing money and effort in producing, marketing and distributing the book. The self-publisher does all of the above for his own book. As there is absence of independent third-party screening of the manuscript such as by an editor, self-published books remain suspect in the eyes of reviewers, bookstores, and readers and, therefore, often suffer from assumptions. Self-publishing has long been accepted as the territory of someone whose belief in their work far exceeds the actual quality of that work, and they back their belief with their own money, resulting in the stigma of self-published works…
